I’m constantly writing articles about the horrible things other carpet cleaners do. Like this guy, who caused an entire hotel to be evacuated. Or this guy, who was caught red handed stealing a customer’s jewelry. For once, I’m happy to tell you a warm and fuzzy story about a carpet cleaner.

Andrew Lumish, of Land O Lakes, Florida, owns a Chem Dry franchise and works six days a week as a professional carpet cleaner. A self-described history buff, Andrew uses his one day off to do something rather unusual.

While most folks use their free time for relaxation and fun, Andrew heads to local cemeteries and looks for old, neglected gravestones of long-forgotten military veterans. He then carefully cleans them to show respect for those who came before him.

Andrew uses safe cleaning chemicals and brushes that won’t damage the old limestone, marble and granite headstones, and he often researches the names of the deceased in an effort to learn some of their backstory. He’s stumbled upon veterans who served as far back as the Civil War.

Interestingly, Andrew admits he’s technically trespassing. He’s never been asked to clean the headstones, nor has he ever sought permission. He simply does it because he feels like it’s the right thing to do, and he wants to show respect for those who gave their lives on behalf of their own country.

Andrew says he gets the occasional strange look from passersby, but no one has complained. Now that his story is gaining national attention, hopefully he’ll get the recognition he deserves.

And as always, if you’re looking for a cleaner you can trust like Mr. Lumish, please call me to find out how I can care for your needs. I’m happy to help and look forward to speaking with you.
